    Atlanto-Occipital Joint

    A joint in which the condyles are enclosed in different capsules is close to an ellipsoid articulation in function (the atlanto-occipital joint). But if the condyles are located close to each other and enclosed in a common capsule, e.g. the knee joint, the articular head on the whole resembles a cylinder lying on its side (block) and divided in the middle (the space between the condyles).
