My mother bakes the best cakes

Ever since I was little I would sit at the kitchen table with my mom when she had a cake to bake. Now I don’t mean ordinary cakes but big wedding and special event cakes. She would make the roses from icing while watching television. Then she also would cut off the warm soft tops of the cake layers when they came out of the oven to make them level. She would let us eat some, or save it and put vanilla pudding on top of it for desert after dinner. I loved the little baby shower favors she used when making the top special. She just had a wonderful neck for making things so adorable or elegant depending on the occasion.
