The apostle Peter adds this warning: “. . . there will be false instructors among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, yet denying the sovereign Lord who purchased them-bringing swift destruction on themselves. Numerous will chase their shameful ways and would bring the route of trueness into disrepute.” (2 Peter 2:1-2)Early Church RumblingsDuring Paul’s life-time, we uncover sections in the Corinthian church. Paul pleaded with them: “I appeal to you, brothers, in the call of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you fit with one one more so that there may be no divisions among you and that you might be perfectly united in head and thinking. My brothers, various from Chloe’s household have enlightened me that on that point are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: Single of you says, ‘I pursue Paul’; different, ‘I pursue Apollos’; different, ‘I follow Cephas’; still another, ‘I chase Christ.’”Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the cite of Paul?” (1 Corinthians 1:10-13)In Revelation, the resurrected Jesus addressed different drifting Church history — the church at Ephesus: “You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at 1st. If you do not repent, I would come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.” (Revelation 2:4-5) In Revelation 1:20, we observe that the lampstand meant the church itself.
