When I first started my Internet business, I trusted my website developer completely and saw nothing wrong with listing him as the technical contact on my Whois record. What I did not realize was that this gave him the ability to change the registrant on my record to himself when his company encountered financial problems. I did eventually get control of my domain again but only after two months of legal briefs and lost income. Before you invest in your Internet business, you must learn the basic rules about protecting your domain investment. First, learn to recognize the people who are worthy of your trust…and do not trust them more than necessary.
